Cracked "The De-Textbook: The Stuff You Didn't Know About the Stuff You Thought You Knew"
Plume | English | October 29, 2013 | ISBN: 0452298202 | 224 pages | azw, epub, lrf, mobi | 41,5 mb

The De-Textbook probably won't set your world on fire and set you on a crusade against Untruth, but it is funny, irreverent, and out to do what schools won't and Cracked does best: debunk myths so ingrained in our minds, we don't even notice them. Well, most of us don't anyway. Of course, if you have healthy reading habits, you already know a good few of the facts the De-Textbook contains, but buy it anyway, most people would find some curious titbit they had no idea about on these pages and the book can stand on its own as pure entertainment.

Time rules our lives. From the rising and setting of the sun to the cycles of nature, the thought processes in our brains, and the biorhythms in our day, nothing so pervades our existence and yet is so difficult to explain. Time seems to be woven into the very fabric of the universe. But why?

Electronica, Ambient | MP3 CBR 320k | 202 MB

Bernhard Wöstheinrich speaks in his own musical voice. Providing a unique perspective in his increasingly frequent collaborations in the DiN label catalogue, Wöstheinrich has quietly been playing with and influencing some of our community's most interesting talents. On Arcadia Borealis (63'23") Erik Wøllo takes his turn. His introspective approach to music results in the distillation of emotion while Wöstheinrich's private symbolism represents an urge for self-expression and release. The musical arc of this CD moves from curiously beautiful on the opening tracks to beautifully curious on the closing few. Each of the 12 pieces is fully formed and thoughtful. The more energetic songs are driven by firm beats amidst simultaneously sounding musical lines. With harmonies trailing behind melodies these shimmering works draw their power from the arctic regions upon which this music is based - informing the dramatic outline of Arcadia Borealis. As this album plays out it slows down, with each work disintegrating into swirling unanchored abstractions of sustained tonal ambiance. An intriguing listening experience, Arcadia Borealis benefits from great conceptualization, arranging and musicianship. Together this duo pulls off their first collaboration with startling brilliance.

Josh Presseisen's fourth album is by far the most accessible to date from the Boston producer, retaining the skittishness and easy on the ear values of the curiously obtuse wild-animals-from-space concept of his preceding Wolves Hollow long-player, but with a much rounder sound than previous full-length outings. The Aphex influences are again evident throughout the album, but are less obvious, spun through arrangements that occasionally twitch in unexpected directions. The jittery high speed percussion of "Indigo Florist" captures the spirit of the whole album with these beats, which would trounce everything around them in any other setting, finding themselves countered by a track which wanders along at its own pace, the ebb and flow dictated by the sonic tide of the bassline. Well thought out and emotional electronic music.

Ivan Ramen: Love, Obsession, and Recipes from Tokyo's Most Unlikely Noodle Joint (repost)

Ivan Ramen: Love, Obsession, and Recipes from Tokyo's Most Unlikely Noodle Joint by David Chang
English | Oct 29, 2013 | ISBN: 1607744465 | 224 Pages | EPUB | 22 MB

In 2007, Orkin, a middle-aged Jewish guy from Long Island, did something crazy. In the food-zealous, insular megalopolis of Tokyo, Ivan opened a ramen shop. He was a gaijin (foreigner), trying to make his name in a place that is fiercely opinionated about ramen. At first, customers came because they were curious, but word spread quickly about Ivan’s handmade noodles, clean and complex broth, and thoughtfully prepared toppings. Soon enough, Ivan became a celebrity—a fixture of Japanese TV programs and the face of his own best-selling brand of instant ramen. Ivan opened a second location in Tokyo, and has now returned to New York City to open his first US branch.
